Silage Rings Specific FAQ

Do side walls / Silage rings contain wire?
Silage rings do contain wire, however the side walls are cut in such a way that the wires remain firmly fixed within the rubber tyre sidewall. The silage rings are of strong construction and therefore it is highly unlikely that they could be damaged if run over by a tractor wheel or similar. Every effort is made to ensure that wires are correctly cut and are checked before despatch. However, for further reassurance we advise customers to inspect newly delivered batches in the event that some have been mussed. In which case these can be easily trimmed prior to applying to the silage clamp.

Are the cut ends of silage rings an issue when handling?
Side walls are handled by the inner rim of the tyre wall which is smooth and therefore no issue to handle.

Do I need silage nets if I am using silage rings?
Silage rings can be used without protective nets and nets can be used without tyre sidewalls. However nets prevent damage to tight plastic silage coverings but do not apply any weight. Equally silage rings apply weight to the surface of the silage however they do not protect from damage from birds or other wildlife. Therefore to have the best protection for your silage clamp, it is advised to always use both.

How well do silage rings stay on the calmp?
Silage rings will remain on a surface of up to a 40 degree slope. Due to the weight of silage rings, they are not affected by wind therefore are more effective than rubber matting. It is not recommended to build silage pits with slopes greater than 30 degrees since these cannot be rolled effectively, therefore silage rings should be an effective means of weighting without issues of sliding.
